We did, however, find a image mock-up from the user Fotoboer on Flickr that may be the closest representation of what an iTablet may look like.

Again, the above is a mock-up and may or may not be what they’re announcing.  It also, if announced to be the mythical iTablet, may not look like this.

Tablets are nothing new to be honest.  In 2000, we first saw them and they did horrible in the market as they were very expensive and laptops still roamed the Earth.  Only time will truely tell if they will be viable in today’s market but things have changed and people want devices that are portable and easy to use.  Apple has been making those very devices and this would be a great product for their portfolio.

We also know that Verizon will get a shipment of these later in the year but what was recently discovered is that Wal-Mart, the largest US retailer, will start selling them as well.

Google Wave allows one to communicate using with photos, rich text, videos, maps and do it in real time which isn’t your dad’s email application.

When I was growing up, I had to dial up to a bulletin board system (which was all text based by the way) and hope that I received an email to the one I sent a week ago.  As the internet took up in the 90’s, email skyrocketed where you could receive a response to your message the same day.  With Google Wave, you could receive your response as you’re writing it if you’re lucky enough to have the person online.

Simply add participants to the Wave and you’re off.  Drag in some photos of the family and then ask who’s attending the family reunion and it will format it for you to be easily read.  This truly is the death of conventional email as we know and even tougher news for your post office.

Sorry Postal Service people but even you have to admit this is pretty awesome and just plain useful when it comes to communication.  You’re able to chat, collaborate and email all from one package which will help productivity.  You’re able to create your own applications and widgets for use with the nifty API and share your creations with others.

1. Elgg – This platform is just that; a platform.  It provides the framework to create your own tools and modules to make everything work together.  If you’re just looking to slap something up, they have built many modules for you already but having this API at hand, you’re able to make your social network standout.

2. Dolphin – This application is a complete social network.  It does allow for modification and expansion, it also requires a license fee to remove the copyrights from the footer.  If you don’t mind the copy writes then this might be for you. Chat, forums, whiteboards, and profiles are all standard.  There is even instant messaging much like what’s found in Facebook and MySpace.

While there are others out there, I recommend using one of the two above.  The reason for this is that I haven’t found others with all the features offered in a single package nor as well of a developed API to work with.  These two are literally the top of the game in the open source arena and I’ve used both.

Passwords are the only thing that seperates your information and the rest of the world viewing it.  It’s time for you to rethink your password with the steps I have listed below:

1. Your password should be between eight and sixteen characters.  The more characters the better but no less than eight.

2. Your password should consist of upper and lower case letters.

3. You password should contain numbers.

4. Your password should contain at least one of these charactes: !@#$%^&*()’”.,/?~`-=_+|\{}[]

5. Your password shouldn’t contain a word found in the dictionary.

6. Your password shoud never have the word password in it (see rule 5).

7. Your password shouldn’t contain your name, pet’s name, social security number, house number, phone number, mothers name (maden or otherwise), you nick name or anything to do with the Backstreet Boys.

8. Your password should never be shared.

9. Your password should change at least once every six months.

10. Your password should never be written down.

If you follow these simple ten steps, you’ll have a safer and happier password that won’t be abused by others or easily hacked.  This is no guarantee that it won’t be hacked but it gives it a fighting chance in the end.
